about
A seven song survey of displacement, No More Fragrant Thoughts (out May 2024) places proper nouns in improper places. Whether bending a love song to fit an homage to television’s Forensic Files, or the surreal irony of tugging at a string of mailer daemon emails like a loose thread, the album balances a blank slate with the anxiety of reestablishing oneself in a strange city.
lyrics
i worried at the words but fumbled punctuation, sending my regards to the mailer daemon. he writes me nice replies with itemized receipts, and looking through those letters now, how he must know so much of me. from misdirected resumes, bookings for house sitting gigs, a query from that choir-for-hire, a quote on video editing. now i’m ashamed to say i only know his given name; that he seems self assured and nice; that curiosity’s my vice. so i wrote some notes and ruined each address. i pitted all my strengths against complaints about my loneliness. but i grew tired of it and i became direct. put a pub name in the subject line, reads “meet me thursday night at nine.” he never showed.
